On Saturday, February 28th, 2009, Louisiana Spirits Paranormal Investigations
hosted "Le Festival D'Esprits", Louisiana's very first paranormal convention! The
event was held at the historic Shreveport Municipal Auditorium, a location not only
enriched with history, but also home to tons of reported paranormal activity!
Preparations for the event were exhausting as we began our planning nearly 9
months in advance. The extended planning paid off, as we had in excess of 200
guests in attendance, which is a huge success for a first time paranormal
gathering such as this one. Paranormal enthusiasts from as far as California and
Pennsylvania flocked to "The Stage of Stars" to see the great lineup of speakers
we had to offer.
The day was filled with extremely informative lectures from some of the most
known and respected figures in the paranormal community. We began our day
with Bob Hunnicutt, founder of the Georgia Ghost Society. Bob introduced
everyone to his group and presented some intriguing evidence collected from his
years of investigating.
Next, was a great introduction to Poltergeists by our good friend Pete Haviland,
founder and director of Lone Star Spirits, one of the oldest paranormal groups in
Texas. Following Pete, we featured Kalila Smith and Gina Vega, two practitioners
of Voodoo, giving everyone a crash course on this controversial subject.
Amenities throughout the day were hourly EMF giveaways and a catered,
complimentary lunch.
After lunch, the spotlighted speakers took to the stage! Dan Mewhinney of SoCal
paranormal gave an extremely interesting presentation on Electronic Voice
Phenomena as well as the dangers of the paranormal.
Loyd Auerbach, famed author and parapsychologist gave a great two-hour
presentation on PK. I think it was safe to say that everyone left that day, learning
something new from Loyd! He is an extremely intelligent individual and we were
honored to have him attend our event!
Kristyn Gartland, TAPS member and one of the stars of "Ghost Hunters", gave her
famed "Paranormal 101" lecture. Kristyn, who is very down to earth and a great
friend, entertained everyone with her straight-forward, yet informative lecture. It
was a pleasure hanging out with her for the weekend and we definitely look
forward to getting back together.
We rapped up the event with my personal favorite, John Zaffis, world renown
demonologist, author, and overall great guy! John's lecture, which was on the
introduction of demonology, mesmerized everyone, keeping them on the edge of
their seats and definitely creeped some of our attendees out with his video and
sound clips!
The night then concluded with our overnight investigation of the auditorium with
our VIP ticket holders and our guests speakers. Everyone had a blast getting a
hands-on tour of the building, while some of those present actually had strange
happenings occur during the night!
In closing, we cannot thank everyone who contributed in some way to make this
convention such a huge success. Being completely self-funded and with no
sponsors, we pulled off an amazingly successful first-time convention, leaving all
those in attendance wanting more!
As far as our guests speakers, who have attended dozens of similar conventions,
all said the same thing: that this was the most well-organized convention they had
ever been too! This we owe to each and every one of our great members here at
"Louisiana Spirits"!
Again, to all those who attended, we cannot thank you all enough and we are glad
you had a great time. The biggest question has been, "Will there be a second
convention?" We can't say 100% sure if there will be a "part deux" but let me be
the first to say that it is looking pretty good as of right now!! Hope to see you all
again soon!
